Get To Know Detour:
Nate Brasells:
(Electric Guitar/Vocals)
Nate Brasells is the lead guitar player and speaker for Detour. He was born in Seattle, Washington, but moved to Tennessee when he was five years old. He has always loved being creative, whether it involves putting pen to paper (or Converse sneakers… check his out, sometime!) or a stylus on a computer, he enjoys drawing and making animations. He has also always had an ear for music and took piano lessons for a few years before picking up the guitar as a high school student. Nate received Christ as his Savior at a winter youth retreat and since that time he has felt a strong calling from God to minister to other youth. Music has been a great outlet and way to reach others with the message of Jesus Christ. Nate graduated from high school in 2012 and plans to head to college in the fall of 2013 to pursue a career as a youth minister. Just a few of his many influences for guitar are David Gilmour, Jonny Buckland, and The Edge.
My favorite verse is Philippians 4:13. This has been a very inspiring and motivational verse for me with starting this ministry.
"I can do all things through him who strengthens me."
- Philippians 4:13 (ESV)
Evan Carr:
(Electric Guitar)
Born and raised just outside of Nashville in Old Hickory, Tennessee, Evan Carr plays electric guitar with Detour. He started playing guitar when he was in the fourth grade and his skills have really grown over the last few years. He has a younger brother, Mitchell, as well as an older one, Zach, who is a college student. Evan recently graduated from Martin Luther King High School where his pre-engineering classes were some of his most favorite classes. He feels like they very realistic and gave him a good foundation for what he will experience in college. Headed to Tennessee Technical University in the fall, he plans to study civil engineering with a concentration in structural engineering. In the future, he hopes to follow up his bachelor’s degree with a master’s degree. His desire is to be able to use his career skills as well as the other talents that God has blessed him with to minister to others in whatever capacity God has for him. Aside from an obvious musical talent, Evan is very passionate about soccer. He has played since he was three years old. He has played on rec and travel leagues as well as school teams. While he was in high school, he was a ref for YMCA soccer. He also finds a great outlet through video games. Some of his favorite games are Halo and Call of Duty. Evan has been with Detour since its earliest days and he is especially handy with napping at a moments notice.
My favorite verse is 2 Timothy 2:2
"You then, my child, be strengthened by the grace that is in Christ Jesus"
- 2 Timothy 2:2 (ESV)
Joseph Dugger:
(Bass Guitar)
As a major fan of football, Joseph Dugger may be the biggest fan of the Tennessee Titans every. He is the fourth of six kids in his family, and all of them love to go to Titans’ games whenever possible. Joseph was born in Texas, but moved to Pleasant View, Tennessee when he was just two years old. Since he started fifth grade, he has been homeschooled. This year is his senior year. He is really excited to graduate and be done with school… at least for the summer! He is not sure what he wants to do following graduation. He is waiting on God right now for guidance. In addition to being a fan of football, he also loves playing for Aaron Academy. He also enjoys playing baseball. Joseph plays bass for Detour and enjoys making people laugh.
My favorite verse is John 3:21
"But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what he has done has been done through God."
- John 3:21 (ESV)
Savannah Barnes:
(Keys/Vocals)
The keyboard player and vocalist for Detour is Savannah Barnes. She has a brother, Christian, who is two years younger than her. Savannah has spent her entire life in Mt. Juliet, Tennessee. Her mother has always homeschooled her and her brother. English and literature classes are much more interesting to her than math and science. Her favorite classes, however, are the things that have to do with music, such as choir and her private vocal lessons. She also enjoys drama class and participating in productions. She loves hanging out with her friends, playing music and singing. While she had some piano lessons as a little girl, most of what she does now, she has taught herself. This is her junior year in high school and she is excited to see what God has in store for her following graduation in 2014. She plans to go to college, but as far as where and what she will major in, that has not yet been determined. She is sure of God leading her to participating in this ministry right now and is praying and seeking God for future plans.
My favorite verse is Philippians 4:6
"Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God."
- Philippians 4:6 (ESV)
Josh Crockrell:
(Vocals)
Josh Crockrell, or “Crockpot” as he is affectionately known to the band, is also known as Uncle Josh to his two nephews, Jacob and Zachary. They bring a lot of joy to Josh’s life by constantly wanting to wrestle and beat him up! Their mom, his only sibling, Lesley, lives a few hours away in Georgia, but they visit often. Josh has lived all of his life in the Nashville area, first in Madison and now as a Hendersonville resident. This newest Detour member is currently a senior at Beech High School. His favorite classes in school are anything agricultural. These are very hands-on classes and he is a very active young man who always wants to be “doing”. He is very active in FFA, although he doesn’t necessarily plan to be a farmer some day. Through this organization he has learned to speak publicly and overcame a huge fear in his life. His future goals include attending college and pursuing a career in fire safety, with the hopes of being a fireman one day. Ultimately, his goal is to allow God to lead him in whatever direction He sees fit to take Josh. He is a huge college football fan. He played himself during his freshman year in high school and discovered his was a better fan than a player. He also loves scary movies, although often they make him laugh instead of scream; however, he found Paranormal Activity and Insidious “just plain creepy.” Surrounding himself with all things country and Christian, Detour’s lead vocalist can occasionally be found listening to the “oldies” on his iPod. Josh never sits still for very long and is always good for a big ol’ hug at the most unexpected moments.
My favorite verse is John 15:18-19. It helps me keep my motivation to do God's will.
"[18] “If the world hates you, know that it has hated me before it hated you. [19] If you were of the world, the world would love you as its own; but because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you."
- John 15:18-19 (ESV)
