Detour's Ministry
“[13] Enter by the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the way is easy that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many. [14] For the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life, and those who find it are few." - Matthew 7:13-14 (ESV)
What Is Detour?
Detour is a youth-led, classic vibe rock-styled worship band from Nashville, Tennessee. Our mission is simple, we want to fulfill each of our callings to this ministry by going out into the Middle Tennessee area and ministering to youth groups through powerful worship and the preaching of The Word.
Why "Detour"?
Our band's name comes from the verse, Matthew 7:13-14. We are instructed to take the way that is hard, and leads to Life... This is the "Detour" from the easy way that leads to destruction. Sin. We need to be set apart from the world and set apart to God's Word. Therefore, the band feels called to share God's Word through this ministry and set an example by taking the "Detour" from the wide path.
Detour's History:
In 2010, it all began. We were a band called F.I.R.E. (Faith in Redemption Everlasting) leading worship for our church's Wednesday night youth ministry. F.I.R.E. consisted of Caylee Dugger (vocals), Alex Fisher (drums), Nate Brasells (keys/vocals), Evan Carr (electric guitar), and Kami Brasells (acoustic guitar/vocals). The band transitioned in 2011, upon Caylee Dugger's departure, by adding Savannah Barnes (keys/vocals) and Joseph Dugger (bass guitar). Nate Brasells continued on vocals, but moved to electric guitar from keys. The band maintained Alex Fisher, Evan Carr, and Kami Brasells. Later in 2012, Ben Coleman joined as a vocalist.
Slowly several of us began realizing we were called to something so much more than JUST leading worship on Wednesday nights. Then, Nate Brasells got the idea, "If I'm feeling called to the youth ministry, what better way of getting to that point than starting a ministry of my own?" In the summer of 2012, Nate, Evan, Joseph, Alex, and Savannah all prayed about this ministry and felt that God was calling all five of them in this direction, to Detour. In search of lead singer we talked with Josh Crockrell who felt a similar calling to getting involved in a music minded ministry. A month after Detour was formed, Josh joined the band as our lead singer.
